Welcome to Rural Projects

Rural Projects is an artist-run residency and art venue situated on a quiet country road in southern Columbia County, NY.

Rural Projects Mission

The mission of Rural Projects is to run a rural workspace and residency program serving artists who address technology in their work, to provide a bucolic backdrop for a period of focused studio practice, site-specific work and public exhibition opportunities for artists in residence, and to expose the local community to contemporary art.

Rural Projects Now

Thirty acres of wooded hills provide a sheltered setting for creating art as well as a unique roadside site for large scale site-specific installations. Our 12,000 square foot barn - the 'studio', will house an apartment, shared workshop, and exhibition space. The slab is a roadside space for site-specific installation to artists in residence. Our first artist, Martine Kaczynski, debuted her large scale replica of an abandoned gas station, entitled 'Route 11' , at our inaugural opening in October 2007. Please link to the residencies page for images of this piece.

Rural Projects Future

The next stage of our project will be the completion of the combined live/workspace and indoor exhibition space. Now in progress.
