ARTIST:Occupation
To thread together Fair Trade, Essential Architecture, Radio Activism, Unlicensed Building, Anarchist Beekeeping, Radical Shepherding and more; attend Maximilian Goldfarb's workshop this summer at Rural Projects in Gallatin, NY. The theme of the workshop, 'Occupation', will lead to a final installation. At Rural Projects’ on-site encampment, we will welcome a range of contributors to a nightly forest presentation space followed by campfire discussion. This short-term, tight knit tent community will work by day to collectively implement our project, to be presented to the local public as well as to a remote listener audience. The program will culminate with a storefront project display to represent our work. The week will be busy with many visitor presentations, design, production, reading, screenings and one field trip. A willingness to participate is the only requirement.
Occupation is a workshop developed by Maximilian Goldfarb for Rural Projects. The project will relate many components of Goldfarb’s work, together with a range of scheduled daily presentations by specialists on the above-mentioned topics. Our work will include the construction of Top Bar Hive kits designed by Goldfarb to be modified by the group, and assembly of radio transmitters, and the group will visit Matt Bua’s B-Home compound for a tour of his growing collection of improvised architecture. We will read at least one complete text (Lectures On Bees, by Rudolph Steiner), as well as excerpts from John Dewey’s, Art As Experience). The week will culminate with a presentation of a collectively produced installation that will utilize various skills and activities of the week. The presentation will be open to the public, followed by a second installation in a storefront display space in Hudson, NY; The Incident Report Viewing Station.
